Why Yoga?

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

The deeper I advance on the path the more difficult it is to put into words why yoga.

It used to be as simple as - it makes me feel good; I am getting stronger and more flexible, and I am meeting lots of great people.

“Life is fire
It will either burn you or transform you.Your choice. ”
-Yogarupa Rod Stryker

Yoga is not just asana...

I fell in love with yoga more than 20 years and was blessed to have an amazing first teacher who taught me so much more than warrior 2. It was a complete and yes a very spiritual practice.

But then, I lost myself in the vinyasa world for many years. My arms balances were strong, my mind not so great.

Yoga is about awakening the power of self knowledge and understanding.

It focuses on 5 main pieces: Unsurpassed calm (stitthi), clear seeing (viveka), the causes suffering (kleshas), our destiny and actions (karma) and stability both physical as well as mental (sthiram).

In other words yoga is the practice that allows us to become more resilient, to see more clearly, to move through fear and find courage to create a life that is more aligned with our purpose and the one of the greater collective. It reminds us everyday that we are worthy of being here, that all of life is sacred, and it gives us tools to connect to the part of us that is unchanging, always at rest, no matter what is happening in the outside world. It asks us to listen, enquire and remember the truth.

Yoga is not just for the mat. I want to infuse all of my life with Yoga. The way I cook, how I interact with my family and friends, how I listen or not listen enough. We need to slow down and pay more attention to all the transitions during the day, observe when we react too quickly, when we forget to pause.

Yoga is a practice of Love, Peace, Joy and Kindness. Always...

Yoga welcomes everyone. You do not need to look a certain way, be flexible, young or wear expensive leggings. If you would like to find out more feel free to contact me at www.sarahmachadoyoga.com
